CROWN + CTRL is a visual concept that merges the archival and the aspirational a love letter to the power of Black hair, 90s cultural iconography, and Afro-futurist imagination. This work is situated at the crossroads of 90s street style nostalgia and Afro-futurism, where ancestral aesthetics and cosmic vision converge. Here, braids become antennae for higher frequencies. The body is a vessel of lineage and innovation. The “CROWN” signifies Black hair as sculpture, memory, and symbol, referencing protective styles as both adornment and resistance. The “CTRL” reclaims the gaze, asserting self-authorship in a world of digital overexposure and erasure. Together, CROWN + CTRL reframes identity as a site of power, coded in the past, hacked for the future.
